My Wings Are Humming

Every now and then I will share pieces of my life that are making me particularly joyous, i.e. "My Wings Are Humming."  I have two today!

First, Mark and I finished putting together our new outdoor living space yesterday afternoon. Isn't it lovely?  Doesn't it just make you want sit down and enjoy a cold glass of iced tea in the day or warm cup of cocoa by a fire in the evening?  We got it done just in time for having my cousin, Belle, and her beautiful family over for dinner.  And yes, we did in fact enjoy some iced tea together!

And second!  I just found out today that Paradise Fibers, my local yarn store (LYS for my fellow Ravelers), selected me to be one of their sample knitters.  Yippee!!!  I will be picking up my supplies later this week, but I already know I will be using Kollage 1/2 N 1/2 and knitting fingerless gloves.  Now, let's all hope that I don't have seperation anxiety when I have to give over the fingerless gloves in this yummy yarn to the Paradise Fibers family.  I know they will take loving care of them though.  I would probably do this for free for the practice and to get to play with yummy new yarns, but the perks include store credit based on the hours of knitting I put in and a percentage off my yarn purchases.  Can it get any better?

The Fruits of Our Labor

I love getting goodies out of the garden!  There is nothing like a garden fresh tomato just bursting with juicy goodness.  This is my most recent harvest, all washed, scrubbed, or snapped and ready to be enjoyed.  Three kinds of tomatoes: Super Sweet 100 Cherry, Early Girl, and Roma.  My Tangerine tomato plant is playing hard to get, but I am sure she will share her bounty soon since she has dressed herself nicely in tiny yellow blossoms that are full of promises.  You also see two tomatillos who are destined to join their brothers that I picked a couple days before and have been chilling in the frig.  They are all getting rather excited to become a salsa verde sauce.  Mark is eager to have the carrots join him for lunch at work. And the snappy Blue Lakes Bush beans are being tempted by some onions and chopped bacon to join in the fun in the jacuzzi on the stove.

The Land of Retirement

Ruthalicious is off on a journey to the mysterious Land of Retirement. Celebrating her many years at North Idaho College has made me wonder what it must feel like to be on the brink of retirement. How does it feel to no longer have to wake up at a certain time? To no longer have to choose your clothes based on your job. To no longer have to take crap from crabby people and to be able to tell those same people exactly what you think. To have the freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want. No mandatory meetings, no deadlines, no paperwork, no reports. Having a hard time imagining it? Yeah, me too.  While I dream of a land of free time and glorious projects of my choice I will miss Ruth's cute giggle and her nummy taco salad. Don't be a stranger, Ruth.  We all love you!
